Root canal price in Barcelona: from €175 depending on the canals

At the clinic, a root canal costs from €175, and the figure goes up with the number of canals in the tooth: one in the incisors and up to four in some molars. Closing the tooth afterward is separate, with a €50 reconstruction or, in molars, almost always with a crown, which costs €270 on the price list. The first visit, with the X-ray, is free.

Here we only cover what you’ll pay: what the starting price covers, why it changes from one tooth to another and what gets added afterward. What the pulp is, why it gets infected and how you know it needs treating are covered on the page about root canal treatment in Barcelona.

What the price from €175 includes

That’s how the figure appears on the clinic’s price list, and it pays for the complete root canal treatment, from the anesthesia to the seal:

  • Local anesthesia and a rubber dam. The dam is a sheet that isolates the tooth so we can work without saliva; during the appointment you’ll feel pressure, if anything.
  • Cleaning each canal. Fine files remove the damaged tissue, and the canal is irrigated to disinfect it.
  • Sealing. The clean canals are filled to the tip of the root and the access opening is closed.

What that figure doesn’t include is the restoration that gives the tooth back its shape for chewing, because it depends on how much healthy tooth is left. We cover it in the next section.

Why the price changes from one tooth to another

What moves the figure is the number of canals: each extra canal means more cleaning time and one more point to find and seal. The €175 corresponds to a simple tooth, like an incisor or a canine, which usually has a single canal.

  • Front teeth: almost always one canal, although the lower incisors sometimes have a second.
  • Premolars: one or two canals.
  • Molars: several, often narrow or curved. They take more work and come with a higher figure.

The X-ray at the first visit shows how many canals your tooth has, and with it we give you the fixed amount. If the case turns out to be more complex than expected, we tell you before we start, not after.

What’s paid separately: closing the tooth

A tooth that has had a root canal needs a restoration over it. Which one depends on how much healthy tooth is left:

  • Dental reconstruction: €50. The tooth’s shape is rebuilt with resin, without a cap; it’s the usual choice for front teeth.
  • Zirconia or porcelain crown: €270. It covers the whole tooth and is what a molar usually needs.

Skipping the crown on a molar costs more in the long run. In the review by Ng and colleagues (2010) on the survival of teeth after root canal treatment, being a molar took years off, while no other factor added as many years as a crown. The crown is quoted separately with you, and you already know its list price: €270.

How many appointments and how long it takes

In the chair, the majority of root canals take between 60 and 90 minutes, and molars are at the longer end. Many are finished in a single appointment. When there’s an infection, they’re sometimes split into two, with medication placed inside the tooth between one and the other.

Doing it in one appointment or two doesn’t change the result: the 2022 Cochrane review on the number of visits found no differences in teeth lost or in failures seen on X-rays, although pain in the first week was somewhat more common with a single visit. The crown, when needed, comes afterward.

Root canal or extraction: what each path costs

A root canal is for keeping a tooth that would otherwise have to come out. Pulling it is cheaper at the time: a simple extraction is listed at €40. But the gap remains, and replacing that tooth with an implant and its crown costs €1,100. If you’re torn between the two paths, ask us about the price of each one at the first visit.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a root canal cost in Barcelona?

At our clinic, from €175, which is the price for a tooth with one canal. It goes up with the number of canals, and the €50 reconstruction or the €270 crown is separate. We give you the fixed figure for your case after the X-ray at the first visit, which isn’t charged.

How much does a root canal with a crown cost?

The root canal starts at €175 and a zirconia or porcelain crown costs €270; the two figures are added together. In molars, which have more canals, the root canal costs more, and the crown is quoted separately at its list price.

How much does a root canal with a reconstruction cost?

From €175 for the root canal plus €50 for the resin reconstruction. It’s the usual combination for front teeth; molars usually need a crown.

Why does a root canal on a molar cost more?

Because it has more canals, often narrow or curved, and each one has to be found, cleaned and sealed. That makes the appointment longer and raises the price. A molar that has had a root canal also almost always benefits from a crown.

Can you have a root canal if there’s an infection?

Yes: a root canal is precisely the treatment for an infection inside the tooth. Sometimes it’s done in two appointments, with medication in between, and the tooth may be a little more sensitive for the first few days.
