Crown lengthening does not have its own line on our price list: the price depends on how many teeth need treatment and whether the bone has to be reshaped, and we give it to you closed and in writing after the initial assessment, which is free. If trimming the gum is enough, that is a gingivectomy, with a fixed price: €30 per tooth or €250 per arch.
Here we cover what you pay, in what order and what is added afterward. When it is indicated, how the procedure works and what care it needs is on the page about crown lengthening in Barcelona.

What crown lengthening costs at the clinic
We do not publish a single figure because the same name covers very different procedures: exposing the edge of a broken molar is nothing like evening out the gum line of the six front teeth. The quote comes out of the initial assessment, and you have it in writing before deciding anything.
What is on the price list are the pieces around it: the gum work done beforehand, the crown that usually follows and the simpler option, a gingivectomy, for when the bone is not in the way.
Gingivectomy or crown lengthening: the measurement that sets the price
The first question is whether removing gum is enough. If the bone sits 3 mm or more from the new gum line, it does not need to be touched, and the trim is a gingivectomy:
- Gingivectomy per tooth: €30. For a single tooth that the gum covers too much.
- Gingivectomy per arch: €250. For all the upper or all the lower teeth, when too much gum shows when you smile.
If the bone is closer, it has to be reshaped too, and that is crown lengthening, with its own quote. It is not decided by how the smile looks, but by the measurement with the periodontal probe and the X-ray from the assessment.
What your quote depends on
- How many teeth. Often, if one of the visible teeth is lengthened, the neighboring ones are included so the gum line stays even. That means more teeth in the same procedure, and we decide it by looking at the whole smile.
- Gum only, or gum and bone. When bone is reshaped, the gum keeps changing for up to six months, and the final crown waits longer.
- What it is for. If it is to restore a tooth that is broken or decayed below the gum, the plan continues with its crown or its reconstruction. If it is so the teeth do not look short, it becomes part of a cosmetic dentistry plan.
- Whether the cause lies elsewhere. Showing a lot of gum when you smile can also come from the lip or the upper jaw. Before quoting we check which one it is, and we explain it in the article on gummy smile.
The full price, step by step
Crown lengthening is rarely done on its own: it prepares the tooth for what comes next. That is why your written quote lists each step, in this order:
- Initial assessment, free of charge, with the probe and the X-ray.
- Healthy gums before surgery. If there is plaque or inflammation, first an oral cleaning, €30. If periodontitis has formed pockets, scaling and root planing, €60.
- The procedure, at the clinic and under local anesthesia. It is closed with stitches.
- Stitch removal, between the first and the second week.
- A wait with a temporary crown: from six weeks to three months for back teeth, and from three to six months for the teeth that show when you smile.
- The final restoration. A zirconia or porcelain crown costs €270; if the tooth allows something simpler, a resin reconstruction, €50.
The crown waits because the gum tends to creep back up a little during the first months, and a crown made too early would end up with its edge out of place. You will see in your quote how the temporary crown is counted. The final crown is explained on the page about dental prosthesis.
When it is not worth it
What the crown gains, the root loses in support. On a molar, the area where its roots split can end up exposed, and sometimes the tooth stays sensitive to cold for a few weeks.
If lengthening would take away too much support, there are other options: bringing the tooth up with orthodontics, or extracting it and placing an implant, which costs €1,100 with its crown on the price list. In that case we give you both figures so you can compare.
How to get your quote
The first step is the initial assessment, at no cost and with no commitment. You leave it knowing whether a gingivectomy is enough or you need crown lengthening, how many teeth are involved and what the whole plan costs, crown included.
You can book from the online appointment page, which only asks for your name, email and mobile number, or call +34 639 65 33 51; we also see patients on Saturday mornings. If you want to show us an X-ray or a photo first, use the online dental consultation. The fixed price of each treatment is on the clinic’s price list.
Frequently asked questions
How much does crown lengthening cost in Barcelona?
At the clinic it has no fixed figure: we give you a closed quote after the initial assessment, which is free. If trimming the gum is enough, that is a gingivectomy, at €30 per tooth or €250 per arch.
Is the crown included in the price?
It is not part of the procedure: it is made months later, once the gum has settled. On the price list, a zirconia or porcelain crown costs €270, and in your written quote it appears as one more step of the plan.
What is the difference between a gingivectomy and crown lengthening?
A gingivectomy only trims gum and has a fixed price. Crown lengthening also reshapes the bone when it sits less than 3 mm from the new gum line. The measurement at the assessment decides it, not how the teeth look.
Do I need a cleaning before surgery?
Only if the gums are not healthy. An oral cleaning costs €30 and, if there are pockets from periodontitis, scaling and root planing costs €60.
How many visits does it take?
The assessment, the procedure and stitch removal one or two weeks later. While you wear the temporary crown we check how the gum settles, and at the end come the appointments for the final crown.
