Gum disease treatment cost in Barcelona: free exam and scaling at €60

The cost of gum disease treatment depends on the stage your gums are in. At the clinic, the periodontal exam at the first visit is free, a teeth cleaning costs €30 and scaling and root planing, which is the treatment for periodontitis, costs €60. The check-up one month after scaling isn’t charged either.

This page covers what you pay at each step, not how the disease works. The difference between gingivitis and periodontitis, the symptoms and how to prevent them are explained on the page about periodontics in Barcelona.

What you pay at each stage

Gum treatment always follows the same order, and each stage either has its price in the price list or is decided with the data from the one before:

  1. Periodontal exam: free. It’s part of the first visit. With a fine probe we measure six points on each tooth and, together with the X-rays, we know which stage you’re in.
  2. Teeth cleaning: €30. It removes the tartar above the gum line. If you only have gingivitis, this cleaning and good care at home are usually enough.
  3. Scaling and root planing: €60. This is the treatment for periodontitis: the root is cleaned below the gum line under local anesthesia and left smooth so the pocket can close.
  4. Check-up after one month: free. We probe again and decide whether maintenance is enough or whether any area needs surgery.

Scaling is done by areas of the mouth, usually by quadrants. How many areas need treatment in your case is shown by the exam, and the written quote tells you before anything starts.

Why there’s no single price

Two people who ask for “gum treatment” may need very different things. This is what changes the quote:

  • The stage of the disease. Gingivitis stops at the cleaning; periodontitis calls for scaling, and sometimes surgery afterwards.
  • How many areas have pockets. A pocket around a couple of teeth isn’t the same as pockets throughout the mouth.
  • How your gums respond. If deep pockets remain at the one-month check-up, the next step is surgery, which has its own price.
  • Smoking and diabetes. They speed up the disease, and that’s why they change the treatment plan.

That’s why the price we give you comes from the periodontal chart and not from a fixed figure set in advance. With those measurements in hand, you know what you’ll pay before the first session.

If surgery is needed

When scaling doesn’t close a pocket, periodontal surgery lets us see the root and the bone directly. In the price list, a gingivectomy, which trims excess gum, costs €30 per tooth and €250 for a whole arch. Other procedures, such as a gum graft or crown lengthening, are quoted separately; we explain them on the page about periodontal surgery in Barcelona.

What these figures don’t include

Some tests and extras aren’t in the price list. If your case needs them, we tell you at the assessment and they go in the same written quote:

  • Microbiological testing. It’s added if the gums don’t respond as expected or if the disease shows up in a young person. It shows which bacteria are present and whether an antibiotic makes sense.
  • Conscious sedation. For people who have a hard time in the chair during scaling or surgery: you stay awake, but calm.
  • Maintenance visits. They don’t have a line in the price list; how often you come and what they cost go in your plan.

How many visits it takes and how long it lasts

The active phase is the exam, the cleaning, the scaling sessions by quadrant and the one-month check-up. What has no end date is maintenance, with a visit every three to six months. Periodontitis is controlled, not cured once and for all, and people who stop coming to their check-ups relapse more often.

That maintenance is also what protects what you’ve invested. Bone lost to the disease doesn’t grow back on its own, so each relapse means bone that can’t be recovered. And if you want an implant later on, your gums have to be healthy before it’s placed.

How to get your quote

The first step is the periodontal exam, which is part of the first visit and isn’t charged. You leave knowing which stage you’re in, what treatment you need and what it costs, in writing.

You can book an appointment online with your name, email and mobile number, or call +34 639 65 33 51. If you’d rather tell us what’s going on first, write to us through the online dental consultation. The rest of the prices are in the clinic’s price list.

Frequently asked questions

How much does gum disease treatment cost in Barcelona?

It depends on the stage. In our price list, the periodontal exam is free, a teeth cleaning costs €30 and scaling and root planing costs €60. If surgery is needed afterwards, a gingivectomy ranges from €30 per tooth to €250 per arch.

How much does a periodontal consultation cost?

The first one is free and includes the periodontal chart, which measures the gums tooth by tooth. The check-up we do one month after scaling isn’t charged either.

How long does gum disease treatment take?

The active phase ends with the check-up one month after scaling, which is done by quadrants. Then comes maintenance, with a visit every three to six months, which is what helps keep the disease from coming back.

Does a teeth cleaning treat periodontitis?

No. A teeth cleaning, at €30, removes the tartar above the gum line and is enough for gingivitis. Periodontitis sits further down, on the root, and is treated with scaling and root planing.

Do I pay for the check-up after scaling?

No. One month after scaling we probe your gums again at no cost to see whether the pockets have closed. With that result we decide whether you move on to maintenance or whether any area needs surgery.
