Gum surgery cost in Barcelona: gingivectomy at €30 and quotes by area

Gum surgery isn’t priced the same in every case, because that name covers different techniques. In our price list, a gingivectomy costs €30 per tooth and €250 for a whole arch. Flap surgery, gum grafts and crown lengthening are quoted in writing based on the areas that need treatment, and the exam that decides it is free.

This page is about money: what you pay, in what order and why the figure changes. When surgery is needed after scaling and how each technique is done are explained on the page about periodontal surgery in Barcelona.

What each type of gum surgery costs

Each procedure solves a different gum problem, and each one has its own way of calculating the price:

  • Gingivectomy: €30 per tooth or €250 per arch. It trims gum that has overgrown. If it affects one or two teeth, it’s charged per tooth; if the whole arch needs evening out, the arch price applies. The details are on gingivectomy in Barcelona.
  • Flap surgery: written quote. It’s considered when pockets of 6 mm or more remain after scaling. The gum is opened to clean the part of the root that scaling couldn’t reach, and the price depends on the areas treated.
  • Gum graft: written quote. It covers a root that has been left exposed, with tissue from the palate or a substitute material. What counts is how many roots need covering; we explain it on gum grafting.
  • Crown lengthening: written quote. It lowers the edge of the gum so a broken tooth has enough room to hold a crown. More on crown lengthening.

Only the gingivectomy has a line in the price list. The other three don’t, because two cases with the same name can involve one area of the mouth or four.

What you pay before surgery

Surgery is rarely the first step. The infection is treated first, and those stages either have a price in the price list or aren’t charged:

  1. Periodontal exam: free. At the first visit we do the periodontal chart, which shows where the pockets are and how deep they are.
  2. Scaling and root planing: €60. The root is treated below the gum line under local anesthesia. Often this is enough and no surgery is needed.
  3. Check-up one month after scaling: free. The gums are probed again. If any pocket is still 6 mm or more, or there is bone that could be regenerated, surgery is proposed.

Doing the scaling first also looks after your wallet: only the areas that haven’t responded are operated on, not the whole mouth. That’s why the surgery quote comes from the measurements taken at that check-up.

What the quote depends on

  • How many areas need surgery. The procedure is organized by areas of the mouth. A single pocket next to a molar doesn’t cost the same as several spread across both arches.
  • Which technique each area needs. The same mouth may need a flap in one place and a graft in another, and each technique goes on its own line of the quote.
  • Whether we try to recover bone. When the defect is vertical and 3 mm or deeper, we can try to regenerate part of it with specific techniques, and that’s added to the procedure.

What these figures don’t include

  • Conscious sedation. For people who have a hard time in the chair: you stay awake, but without the tension of following every movement. It doesn’t have a line in the price list; if you want it, it’s added to the quote.
  • Maintenance afterwards. The visits every few months where the gums are probed and cleaned below the gum line again. How often they happen and what they cost go in your plan.

How many visits it takes and how long recovery lasts

Surgery is done under local anesthesia and by areas, so the number of visits depends on how many areas need treatment. Stitches that don’t dissolve are removed after one or two weeks.

During that time, the usual routine is a chlorhexidine rinse two or three times a day, soft food for the first week and no smoking for the following two. Don’t brush the treated area until we tell you to. Pain relievers and anti-inflammatories are enough for the discomfort; antibiotics are only prescribed when the case calls for them.

Then comes maintenance. A pocket closed with surgery can open up again if plaque builds up in the same spot, and those check-ups are what help your investment in the procedure last.

How to get your quote

Everything starts with the periodontal exam at the first visit, which isn’t charged. You leave knowing whether you need scaling, whether surgery is likely afterwards and the price of whatever can already be quoted, in writing.

Frequently asked questions

How much does gum surgery cost in Barcelona?

It depends on the technique. In our price list, a gingivectomy costs €30 per tooth or €250 per arch. Flap surgery, gum grafts and crown lengthening are quoted in writing based on the areas involved, after the free exam.

How much does a periodontal deep cleaning cost?

What many people call a periodontal or deep cleaning is scaling and root planing, which is listed at €60 in the price list. It isn’t the same as the €30 teeth cleaning, which only removes the tartar above the gum line.

Is surgery charged per tooth or per area?

A gingivectomy is charged per tooth or per whole arch. The rest is calculated by the areas that need surgery, and the quote tells you how many there are before anything starts.

I’ve already had scaling. Do I need surgery?

Only if, when the gums are probed again, any pocket is still 6 mm or more, or there’s a bone defect that could be regenerated. If the pockets have closed, there’s no surgery and you move on to maintenance check-ups.

Is sedation included in the price?

It doesn’t have a line in the price list. If the dental chair makes you anxious, the procedure can be done with conscious sedation, and we add it to the same written quote so you know the total before setting a date.
