Maxillofacial surgery cost in Barcelona: extraction €40, implant €1,100

Surgeon wearing loupes and his assistant, in caps and masks, operating on the mouth of a patient lying in the dental chair

Maxillofacial surgery does not have a single price: each procedure has its own. On our price list, a simple extraction costs €40, a wisdom tooth extraction is listed at €60 and an implant with its crown at €1,100. Anything not on the list, such as a cyst or a bone graft, is quoted in writing at the first visit, which is free.

This page covers cost only: what has a set price, what is worked out after seeing the X-ray and what the public health system pays for. What the specialist does and which cases they treat is explained on the page about the maxillofacial surgeon in Barcelona.

Procedures with a set price on the price list

These figures are the ones on the clinic’s price list, and they are the same ones you will see on your written quote:

  • First assessment visit: free. We examine the area, look at the X-ray and decide whether the case can be handled in the office or needs another test first.
  • Implant study: €0. If what is being assessed is an implant, the scan that shows whether there is enough bone to place it is not charged either.
  • Simple extraction: €40. This is for a tooth that comes out whole without opening the gum, under local anesthesia.
  • Wisdom tooth extraction: €60. This is the figure the price list gives for this extraction.
  • Implant with its crown: €1,100. A closed price that covers the titanium root and the visible tooth on top.

With wisdom teeth there is a nuance: removing one that has already come in does not cost the same as one buried in the bone, lying sideways or close to the nerve. That second kind is surgery, and its quote is closed once we have seen the X-ray. The detail by position is in the article about wisdom teeth extraction cost in Barcelona.

What is quoted after the assessment

Some procedures have no line on the price list because their cost depends on what the image shows: the size of a lesion, how much bone is missing or the path of a nerve. In those cases we set the price after the first visit and give it to you in writing before scheduling a date:

  • Jaw cysts. Their size and location matter. A small one is removed in the office under local anesthesia.
  • Bone graft before an implant. What it costs depends on how much bone has to be added, and that is measured by the scan in the implant study.
  • Zygomatic implants. They are anchored in the cheekbone when the upper jaw can no longer hold a standard implant. It is a larger procedure and is planned on a 3D scan.
  • Conscious sedation. If you have a hard time at the dentist, it can be added to the local anesthesia. We discuss it at the assessment and, if you choose it, it appears on the same quote.

Orthognathic surgery is quoted separately

Orthognathic surgery, which corrects the position of the jaws when orthodontics alone is not enough, is not on the price list either. It is done in a hospital, under general anesthesia and with one or two nights’ stay, which is why its quote is prepared separately from the rest.

It almost never comes alone: it usually goes with many months of orthodontics, before and after surgery, and the cost of the treatment is the sum of both.

What the public health system pays for

Before asking a private clinic for a quote, it helps to know what the public system covers. Spain’s Royal Decree 1030/2006, in its Annexes II and III, includes maxillofacial surgery that treats a disease, an accident or a birth malformation, such as a fractured cheekbone or a jaw tumor. You reach the hospital specialist through a referral from your local health center.

What is left out is surgery for cosmetic purposes unrelated to a disease, an accident or a malformation. If at the assessment we see that your case belongs in the public system, we tell you, and finding out costs you nothing.

How many visits it takes and how long

For what is operated on at the clinic, the process has four steps:

  1. Free assessment, with your medical history, the medication you take and the X-ray; if the bone or a nearby nerve needs to be seen, a 3D scan.
  2. Plan and price in writing, before setting the date: which procedure, with which anesthesia and how long recovery takes.
  3. The procedure, under local anesthesia, with sedation if you need it. It is outpatient: you walk out the same day.
  4. Checkups until discharge, the first one a few days later, to see how the wound is closing and remove the stitches if there are any.

How to get your quote

Everything starts with the first visit, which is not charged, and you leave it with the plan and its price. To request it, book an appointment online with your name, email and mobile number, or call +34 639 65 33 51. If you want to ask something before coming in, use the online dental consultation. The prices of other treatments are on the clinic’s price list.

Frequently asked questions

How much does maxillofacial surgery cost in Barcelona?

It depends on what is being operated on. On our price list, a simple extraction costs €40, a wisdom tooth extraction is listed at €60 and an implant with a crown at €1,100. A cyst, a bone graft or a zygomatic implant is quoted after the assessment, which is free.

How much does a maxillofacial surgeon charge for the first consultation?

At the clinic, nothing. The first visit is free and includes the exam and the reading of the X-ray. If a scan is needed to assess an implant, the implant study is not charged either.

How much does it cost to remove a jaw cyst?

It has no line on the price list, because it depends on the size of the cyst and where it is. A small one is removed in the office under local anesthesia. In every case we give you the price in writing after the assessment, which is free, and before setting a date.

Does the Spanish public health system pay for maxillofacial surgery?

It pays for surgery that treats a disease, an accident or a birth malformation, under Royal Decree 1030/2006, and you get there through a referral from your local health center. What is done for cosmetic reasons, without that cause, is left out.

How much does orthognathic surgery cost?

It is not on our price list because it is done in a hospital, under general anesthesia with a hospital stay, and is quoted separately. The orthodontics that goes with it before and after surgery has to be added to that figure.
