Gum graft cost in Barcelona: what the quote covers and what changes it

A gum graft doesn’t have a fixed price on our price list, because each case covers a different number of roots with a different technique. We give you a fixed, written quote at the first visit, which is free, before the surgery is scheduled.

How the procedure is done and why the gum recedes are explained on the page about gum grafting in Barcelona. Here we focus on the money: what the quote covers, what makes it change, what is paid separately and how many visits you’ll need.

What a gum graft costs at the clinic

On our price list you won’t find a row for gum grafting, and that’s not an oversight. One person only needs the root of a canine covered; another has several teeth in a row with exposed roots. A single figure would rarely match yours.

That’s why the amount comes from your exam. At the first visit we measure how far the gum has receded on each tooth, look at what caused it and decide on the technique. With that we give you a fixed quote, and the figure on it is what you pay for the procedure.

What the gum graft quote includes

The quote covers the graft from start to finish, with no items added later:

  • Local anesthesia, which numbs the area for the surgery.
  • Taking the tissue from your palate or, if that’s the choice, the collagen substitute.
  • Placing the graft over the root and the stitches that hold it.
  • Protecting the area of the palate the tissue comes from.
  • The follow-up visit where we check the healing and remove the stitches.
  • Written instructions: what to eat, which mouthwash to use and when to start brushing again.

What the price depends on

What moves the price of a gum graft comes down to four things:

  • How many teeth need covering. A single exposed root isn’t the same as three or four teeth in a row: the more teeth involved, the more tissue is needed and the more chair time it takes.
  • Where the tissue comes from. Your palate or a substitute, and each option has its own quote. If both work in your case, we give you the figure for each so you can compare.
  • What the graft is for. Covering an exposed root takes one technique, and building firm gum tissue around the tooth takes another. The choice comes from the exam, not from the price.
  • What has to be treated first. The graft is placed in a mouth free of plaque and tartar, so active periodontitis is treated before it.

The quote also states how much of the root is expected to be covered, which depends mainly on the bone and gum left between the teeth. That way you compare the price knowing what to expect.

What isn’t included and what it costs

Anything that isn’t the graft is charged at its price-list rate, and you know about it from the first visit. Alongside receding gums, these are the usual ones:

  • Dental cleaning: €30. If it’s needed, it’s done at the same first visit, so you come to the surgery with a clean mouth.
  • Scaling and root planing: €60. It comes before the graft when there are periodontal pockets and the root has to be cleaned below the gumline.
  • Filling: €40 per tooth, if the exposed root has a cavity.

If the cause was brushing too hard, changing your brush and your technique costs nothing: we show you how at the follow-up visit. If it was periodontitis, afterward you’ll go on the schedule of periodontal checkups.

How many appointments it takes and how long

It usually takes three visits. The first is the assessment, at no cost: exam, measurement of the recession, its cause and the quote. The second is the surgery, under local anesthesia. The third is the follow-up to remove the stitches; until that day, you don’t brush the treated area.

If the tissue comes from the palate, that’s usually the part that bothers people during the first days, and the wound there takes two to four weeks to close. The discomfort is handled with common painkillers and soft food, so it’s a good idea to schedule the surgery ahead of a few days without meals out.

Questions about the cost of a gum graft

How much does a gum graft cost in Barcelona?

At the clinic it doesn’t have a fixed figure: it depends on how many roots need covering and on the technique your case calls for. We give you the fixed, written quote at the first visit, which is free.

Does it cost the same with tissue from the palate as with a substitute?

Each technique has its own quote. If both work in your case, we give you the figure for each and what you can expect: your own tissue usually covers a little more of the root, and the substitute spares you the wound on the palate.

Are the cleaning or the gum treatment paid separately?

Yes, at their price-list rates: €30 for a dental cleaning and €60 for scaling and root planing. They’re only done if your gums need them before the graft.

Do I pay for the visit where the stitches come out?

No, it’s part of the graft quote, and so are the instructions for caring for the area at home.

Is a gum graft the same as a gingivectomy?

No, and they aren’t priced the same way either. A gingivectomy removes excess gum and has a fixed price on the price list, €30 per tooth; a graft replaces gum that’s missing, which is why it’s quoted case by case.
