Teeth cleaning cost in Barcelona: €30 with the checkup included

Gloved hands bringing an ultrasonic scaler tip to the open mouth of a patient, with the suction in place

At the clinic, a teeth cleaning costs €30, a fixed price with the checkup beforehand included. It takes about 30 minutes and has four steps: plaque disclosing agent, ultrasonic scaling for the tartar, polishing and fluoride. If the checkup finds pockets in your gums, we tell you before we start, because then what you need is a different treatment, at a different price.

This page is only about cost: what the €30 covers, when the figure changes and how often you’ll have to pay it. Why tartar builds up and what you feel during and after the cleaning are covered on the page about teeth cleaning in Barcelona.

What the €30 price includes

That’s how the figure appears on the clinic’s price list, and there are no extras per step. First comes a checkup: we look at your gums and the tartar and check with a probe for pockets, because that’s what tells us whether a cleaning is enough. Then come the four steps:

  1. Plaque disclosing agent. It stains the plaque and shows you, in your own mouth, the areas your brush doesn’t reach.
  2. Ultrasonic scaling. The tip vibrates and breaks up the tartar while a jet of water cools it and rinses away the debris.
  3. Polishing. A rubber cup and fine paste remove surface stains from coffee, tea or tobacco.
  4. Fluoride at the end, which helps prevent cavities.

Anesthesia isn’t usually needed: it’s kept for when there’s a lot of tartar or the gums are very inflamed and we have to work right next to the gum line.

When the price is no longer €30

A cleaning works above the gum line. If probing finds periodontal pockets, the tartar is stuck to the root, below the gum, and a cleaning doesn’t reach it. In that case we don’t charge you for a cleaning that wouldn’t solve anything: we suggest the treatment you need, with its price in writing. These are the amounts from the price list that may come up:

  • Scaling and root planing: listed at €60. It cleans the root below the gum line, under local anesthesia and one area at a time.
  • Filling: €40, if the checkup finds a cavity.
  • Whitening with cleaning: €250, if you also want a lighter shade. The cleaning is included in that price and isn’t paid twice.

How many scaling appointments you need depends on the probing: if only a few teeth have pockets, we work on those teeth alone.

How many appointments it takes and how long

In a mouth that’s checked regularly, the cleaning fits into a single appointment of about 30 minutes. When it’s been years since the last one or a lot of tartar has built up, we split it into two appointments, one per arch. It isn’t to drag it out: working in halves lets us numb only the area being treated, if needed, and you can eat normally in between.

Whether your case takes one appointment or two, we tell you at the checkup and before we start, with the price in writing.

How often you’ll need to pay for it

There’s no interval that works for everyone. The UK’s NICE guideline sets each adult’s checkup interval at between 3 and 24 months depending on their risk, and a cleaning is recommended based on what that checkup shows.

People who have had periodontitis need more frequent maintenance, and so do people with braces: plaque collects around each bracket stuck to the tooth, and the gums become inflamed easily.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a teeth cleaning cost in Barcelona?

At our clinic, €30. It’s a fixed price that includes the checkup beforehand, the plaque disclosing agent, ultrasonic scaling, polishing and fluoride. If the checkup finds pockets in your gums, we explain which treatment you need and what it costs before doing anything.

How much does a deep dental cleaning cost?

What’s usually called a deep cleaning is scaling and root planing, which cleans the root below the gum line when there are pockets. On the price list it’s €60. It’s done under local anesthesia, one area at a time, and the number of appointments depends on how many teeth are affected.

Are there cheap teeth cleaning deals in Barcelona?

Our price is €30, fixed and with the checkup included, so no extras turn up when you pay. If you also want whitening, the whitening package with cleaning costs €250 and the cleaning isn’t charged separately.

Does a cleaning whiten your teeth?

No. It removes tartar and the stains stuck to the outside, and the tooth looks lighter, but the shade it has underneath doesn’t change. To change that you need whitening, a different treatment with its own price.

How often should you get a dental cleaning?

It depends on your risk, not the calendar. The NICE guideline puts an adult’s checkup interval at between 3 and 24 months, and at that checkup we see whether a cleaning is due. With a history of periodontitis or with braces, checkups are more frequent.
